Osculati - BHF Thru-hull Scoop Strainer | Stainless Steel AISI 316
What makes this scoop so special?
A scoop strainer is designed to literally “scoop” water into thru hull fittings when the boat is in motion, and at the same time prevent debris and large water borne particles from entering your internal marine systems.
This BHF (Buzzi Hi FLow) strainer has a specially designed profile which allows 2.5 times more water in than a traditionally designed scoop.
The scoop is made from cast AISI 316, marine grade stainless steel, which has excellent corrosion resistance properties, so is perfect for marine applications.
The scoop is very substantial and has a large 2″ BSP thread running the whole length of the fitting. The fitting is held in position, through the hull, by tightening up the back nut at the top of the fitting. The connecting pipe work is then screwed onto the top of the fitting. An earth connection is included with the strainer.
This substantial scoop is an excellent way to maximise the volume of water coming in through the inlet.
The stainless steel monoblock casting can stand the pressure of a possible lifting belt.
The scoop strainer also serves as a thru-hull fitting, allowing for direct connection to the inside of the vessel, for example, to a ball valve or in combination with a straight or 90º fitting (with hose tail) on a hose.
This scoop strainer also has a ground connection for earthing.
316 stainless steel is highly resistant to corrosion, salts, chlorides, acids, and aggressive chemicals, thanks to the addition of molybdenum. This makes it ideal for use in maritime environments (coastal, boats), swimming pools, the chemical industry, the food industry, and along busy roads (acid rain). It is a marine-grade steel that performs better than 304 stainless steel in aggressive conditions.
